Teide to be a UNESCO world heritage site.
The Heritage Committee has been deliberating whether or not to add the huge national park of the volcano Teide and its surrounding area to the large list of protected Unesco sites. This obviously adds international prestige to Mount Teide, but would also ensure more protection for the entire area, to ensure its continuity to future generations.
The decision was taken according to Reuters Madrid on the night of Wednesday 25th June.
